About Me

I have been surrounded by textiles and quilting all my life and simply love it. My great grandmother used a treadle sewing machine to sew clothes for income. My grandmother also sewed using a treadle sewing machine. They first taught me how to use a sewing machine and I still have treasured blocks from that quilt that they made together 75 years ago. I have childhood memories of walking through the rows of noisy weaving looms making men’s suiting fabric as well as a yarn manufacturing plant that my grandfather ran. My father patented the technology for sublimation printing on fabrics and today my brother has continued the family tradition and is president of a digital textile printing company. My mother owned a graphics design company which provided further inspiration.

Because of my background, I have always had access to piles of fabric, multiple sewing machines and big baskets of yarns. I have explored all kinds of uses of textiles – sewing, hand and electronic machine knitting, rug hooking, hand and machine embroidery, weaving and spinning and of course – quilting which totally draws me in by the incredible richness of design possibilities. I love mathematics and quilting originally caught my eye because ‘fitting’ everything together often requires mathematics which allows me to exercise my skills in this discipline. I also enjoy doing the research needed to create a quilt that is inspired by history. My interests in quilting currently lean towards designing and printing my own fabrics, foundation piecing, complex applique designs, detailed digital thread painting, and creating quilts that tell a story.

My husband and I live quietly in southern Vermont on the northern border of the Berkshires. My art quilts incorporate math, science and the beautiful nature that surrounds us.
